This report discusses the outcomes of a pilot project on Solid Waste Neighbourhood Self-Management (SWNSM) in Bogor. It regards shifting solid waste management from 'inadequate centralisation' into more practicable divisions. A key component of this approach is the implementation of recycling, reusing, and composting. The project's objective is to highlight possibilities for applying the system in a wider area, including other cities in Indonesia. Recommendations from this case study include further development of the SWNSM system, improvements in implementation, and expansion of the programme to a wider area. Additionally, the report touches upon that there is a significant public demand to "get the message out" on such issues as to why composting, waste minimization and recycling are needed, how to implement composting, waste minimization, and recycling programmes in businesses and schools. Education is a key element of success in waste management.
