The Finnish Roadmap to achieve a Circular Economy goal is to create a shared mindset in Finnish society to promote the circular economy and determine the most effective means to do it. The Roadmap focuses on 5 focus areas, topics that will initially be used in advancing the circular economy in Finland.
The world really needs pioneers as it searches for operating models for economic growth and increased well-being without over-consumption of fossil fuels and natural resources. The driving force for the circular economy roadmap work was to turn the circular economy into a driver of growth, investment and export for Finland.
Finland’s circular economy road map describes the concrete actions that can accelerate the transfer to a competitive circular economy in Finland. The road map highlights best practices and pilots that can be easily replicated and provide added value on a national scale.
Finland will seek a pioneering role by focusing on five interlinked focus areas:
1) a sustainable food system
2) forest-based loops
3) technical loops
4) transport and logistics and,
5) joint actions.
The actions in the different focus areas of the road map are divided into three levels: policy actions, key projects and pilots.
The target of the Finnish government and the roadmap is to make Finland a global leader in the circular economy by 2025.
According to cautious estimates, the circular economy is expected to provide Finland’s national economy with 2 to 3 billion euros in added value potential by 2030 in the following areas: the machinery and equipment and forest industries, food waste reduction, altering the use of real estate, private consumption and second hand trade, and nutrient recycling.
It will also offer significant environmental and social benefits linked to increasing employment in Finland.
