One major obstacle to the development of a circular economy is that producers of waste and businesses that could use that waste as a resource don't know about each other. The Excess Materials Exchange attempts to change that with a service connecting businesses online. They offer a scan of the resources used in a particular business and connect them with other businesses in order to sell their waste resources. The matchmaking process ensures that waste is not only being reused, but used in a way that ensures the highest amount of value being retained. In their pilot phase, they have been dealing with 18 waste streams, and waste sales in the value of 64 million Euro have been conducted through the pilot.
