A European project (SLASORB), tested if metal slag can be used as filter media to remove phosphorus from wastewater for the first time in Europe. This could filter and recover the excessive input of phosphorus in water bodies like rivers and lakes which causes eutrophication due to use of fertilisers in agriculture. * Material impact: reuse of 0.5-1.3 million tons slag/year.
