Fazla Gida (Whole Surplus), a social enterprise established in 2017 in İstanbul, provides holistic and digital solutions to food surplus in line with the Food Recovery Hierarchy and matches them with the right partner to achieve the highest financial, environmental, and social value. Retailers, food suppliers, restaurants, hotel chains, recycling companies and nonprofit organizations work with Fazla Gida to achieve net-zero food waste and recover the highest value out of it.

With its unique business model, Fazla Gida has raised over € 3.8M from both domestic and foreign investors. The company continues to grow its operations across Turkey and prepares for international expansion.

Problem

· Globally, it is known that 1/3 of the produced foods end up as waste. In Turkey, upon Fazla Gıda’s calculations, 2 billion € worth food is being wasted as well with an estimated 60% still being edible.

· Existing food waste recovery solutions are limited to applying at one or two levels of the food recovery hierarchy and lack of well-organized operations across the whole value chain.

Solution

Fazla Gida operates on a digital platform enabled by decision-making tools that offer 3-pillars upcycling process to its B2B clients. The company provides logistics support to complete the operation managed by the platform and divert the waste or surplus going to the landfill.

*Secondary sales marketplace module allows retailers and food suppliers to sell their surplus to other parties at discounted prices.

*Donation module creates the biggest social value out of surplus. Companies across the food value chain can donate their surplus food using the platform and get generous tax advantages. Also, this way, food banks and other social organizations can easily manage their demand.

*Recycling module connects partners to eliminate the waste through animal feed and biogas production. This way, the platform manages waste in an environmentally responsible way with guaranteed low cost and full traceability.

Besides these three modules, the platform provides real-time reporting and analytics dashboards for dynamic waste stream analysis, and insights to reduce waste at the source by combining the machine learning algorithm and big data analysis methods.

they can forecast the demand better and create more efficient procurement strategies and operational decisions with real-time big data analytics to reduce financial loss.

Other than the platform, the primary product of the company, Fazla Gida offers;

*B2C solution with Fazla App; bridging between consumer and restaurants, bakeries, and cafes that have unsold foods at the end of the day.

*Sensa Smart Scale; B2B solution for commercial kitchens to monitor and recover food surplus.

*Sensa S Cold Chain Tracking System; food suppliers can maintain the food safety and avoid waste during distribution operations.
