Up-Fuse is fighting the plastic waste problem by collecting single-use plastic bags and bottles and turning these into fashionable items such as backpacks, bags, footwear and clothing. The company is founded on a slow-fashion model that relies on local artisans who possess skills have been neglected by the mass production system.
This case study has been created as part of Footprints Africa's work to build a comprehensive open-source database of circular economy initiatives in Africa. We are doing this in collaboration with the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN), as part of our programme to support the circular economy transition in Africa.
