Cycle strategies aim to cycle and reuse materials at their highest value: they maximise the volume of secondary materials re-entering the economy, ultimately minimising the need for virgin material inputs and therefore also narrowing flows. Of course, virgin materials will always be needed to a degree: all materials degrade and can’t be cycled infinitely, use energy, and require blending with virgin materials to maintain strength and functionality.

The principles of a circular economy concern designing out waste, regenerating ecosystems and keeping items in use. Decoupling the economy from material flows—improving the rate of resource productivity faster than the economic growth rate—is also a consistent guide. By evolving with the growing number of applications of circular economy principles, and consolidating these strategies across thematic areas, Circle Economy’s Key Elements Framework (KE) renders the elements of the circular economy salient and serves as a basis to derive contextual strategies and interventions. 


The Framework consists of:
- Core Elements: Activities directly handling product or material flows; and uniquely,
- Enabling Elements: those that remove obstacles for core actors.

Circle Economy's framework of strategies and activities that define the circular economy

The Circular City Actions Framework provides urban changemakers with five complementary strategies they can use to start working towards a more circular system. 

The framework is action-based to provide users with concrete strategic directions and showcase the desired outcomes of each strategy. 
The framework consists of five complementary **strategies**, under which **sub-strategies** provide further detail. Finally, each sub-strategy consists of a diversity of tangible **solutions** which are framed in relation to key thematic areas. 

Note: solutions are currently focused on:

An action-based framework for local governments working towards circular cities

Based on the work of [Bocken et al. (2016)](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/309699661_Product_design_and_business_model_strategies_for_a_circular_economy), the Four Flows Framework serves as a simple framework for managing resource flows in a circular economy by using less (Narrow), using for longer (Slow), using again (Cycle), and using clean, regenerative materials and energy (Regenerate).

These different principles of circular economy can be applied to our socioeconomic metabolism: we can design stocks like buildings, infrastructure, machinery, and vehicles to be rich resource mines for the future, and design manufactured goods and consumables to be cycled and made regenerative. Furthermore, the focus must also centre on getting more value out of fewer materials. Achieving the aims of a circular economy—minimising material use, regenerating the Earth, and preventing material losses—can be done through these four key strategies mentioned above.

 Gender Focus  During the trainings and workshops on compost manure production, the public will be made aware of the trainings and women, youth and the disabled will be argued to take part so that they acquire more knowledge and skills. Through the consultation with the SGP office efforts will be made to hold Women based workshops to encourage women to be hands on at a large scale. The project will be communicated to the public through the use of social media, radio interviews and using Government platform  Inovative Financial Mechanisms  From project inception, implementation to decommissioning there will be media coverage to make people aware of the great initiative that Green Habitat Botswana is doing in combating and education local on challenges brought forth by climate change and how to mitigate them, the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter will be essential in reaching a high er level of youth, Seminar and public consultation meetings will be held quarterly to give feedback to the local community and also receive comments and suggestion from key stakeholders and the citizens   Capacity - Building Component   Green Habitat Botswana will be the oversee of the project proceedings   Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment   Social media, radio interviews, workshops, video production will be some of the communication strategies put in place to promote public awareness about the project at hand and the environmental conservation in efforts to address Climate change and also finding noble and sustainable ways to tackle the issue.   Notable Community Participation   The project is being led by youth of Botswana who are part of Green Habitat Botswana Society, and they are also in the management task team which will be overseeing the project design, implementation, monitoring and decommissioning of the projects, they possess the right skills and knowledge on implementing this project. Students from BUAN and other educational facilities will be involved in this project as well as young farmers in Botswana to capacitate them with knowledge and skills of compost production from food waste and the use of organic manure at a young age, this will also spark the interest of recycling waste in Botswana.   Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods   The project is set in a way that it should create employment for youth of Botswana and also gain interest in recycling and conservation of the environment. Management positions will be set aside for women to encourage them to lead and execute project, this will enhance their skills and knowledge. We are leaving no me behind hence we allow al to be part of this project including the disabled.   Policy Impact   The use of food waste to produce organic manure is one way of recycling waste so that it does not end in landfills, waterways and also end up making people sick. Our efforts as Green Habitat Botswana is to show not only the locals but the Government of Botswana that we need policies in place that support recycling in the country because it haspotential to create employment, save the environment and also reduce the effects of climate change on biodiversity. The project can also act as a guideline to enforce Environmental Education to be compulsory to all learning institution from preschool to tertiary, it can also help Botswana to achieve some of the Sustainable Development Goals #13(Climate Change) , #15(Life on Land), this will show the global world the efforts of Botswana in addressing and supporting the SDGs of 2030.We might even see the Government implementing the 3 Bin system to separate litter and also using the waste to produce a lot of things such as power and cooking gas, recycling plants might be constructed which will create employment for Batswana and we might end up importing waste like other countries.   Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples   The use of local languages will be essential to send the message to all corners of Botswana, this is to say the communication language will not only be Setswana and English but all other languages in Botswana, so that the project is well known and accepted by all.

Green Habitat Botswana
