NanoFreeze is a company that specializes in providing innovative packaging solutions for perishable items, particularly medicines, and food products. Their technology utilizes a novel bio-nanotechnology that enables freezing at higher temperatures and preserving the cold chain for extended periods compared to regular frozen water.

Solution

NanoFreeze packages are designed to maintain refrigerated temperatures between 2ºC - 8ºC, making them suitable for transporting perishable medicines safely to consumers' homes. The boxes are adaptable to dry ice, further enhancing their cooling capabilities.

In addition to their conventional refrigeration solutions, NanoFreeze has developed an innovative system called PseudoFreeze, which aims to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with refrigeration. PseudoFreeze is based on a bio-nanocomposite technology that can freeze at higher temperatures and a faster rate by harnessing energy from proteins. This technology offers a cooling cycle of one week under standard conditions and can be restarted using the same liquid and biotechnology. By implementing PseudoFreeze, NanoFreeze aims to make refrigeration more sustainable and accessible.

PseudoFreeze was created in 2018 by four students at Universidad de Los Andes with the goal of revolutionizing the refrigeration industry. By reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions through more efficient cooling processes, NanoFreeze contributes to the reduction of environmental impact.

Outcome

By the year 2025, NanoFreeze aims to significantly reduce food and medicine losses in the global supply chain.
