Endelevu is an African digital construction platform for crowdfunding and material sharing. The platform provides a collaborative process for estimating accurate material requirements for construction projects, crowdfunding under-resourced social construction projects, crowd-sourcing an empowered youth workforce to design and construct the funded community projects, and exchanging reclaimed construction materials and products.
Endelevu aims at solving the problem of construction waste. It is estimated that 10-15% of new building materials are wasted, while the construction industry is responsible for 32% of all landfill waste. This contributes to 23% of air pollution and 40% of water pollution, making construction one of the leading polluting industries in Kenya, and globally. Kenya is facing a huge social infrastructural gap.
Endelevu is helping divert reusable materials from landfills through a digital market place, thus encouraging circular construction. The second-hand materials range from re-usable “wastes” generated from the manufacturing, distribution, construction or demolition processes; as well as surplus or redundant materials from building operations. The development of Endelevu was motivated by the need to transform the current practices in the construction industry to make it responsive to the persisting challenges of environmental degradation, waste proliferation and social inequality.
As a digital marketplace, Endelevu’s digital platform provides support in the following ways:
- estimating accurate material requirements for construction projects,
- crowdfunding for under-resourced social construction projects,
- crowd-sourcing an empowered youth workforce to design and construct the funded projects, and
- trading in reclaimed materials and products.
Endelevu provides a marketplace for construction companies and individuals to sell or donate their excess materials or buy them affordably and calculate their material needs. Registered users are able to trade in reclaimed materials and products through a secure virtual platform that is supported by a robust network of physical re-use collection centres.
The crowdfunding function enables raising of resources for community projects while earning the organization revenue in service fees. The company also creates revenue through commissions from sales of materials and project consultancy and delivery fees.
