Kiswa is encouraging people to sell their old clothes, paying 2 Dhs per Kg (0.5 dollars), and using the collected material for recycling. People can order pick up directly from their doorstep online.

Problem

Throwaway nature of fashion has created a business which creates greenhouse emissions of 1.2bn tons a year — larger than that of international flights and shipping combined. Dubai is not immune to consumers the unhealthy fast fashion habits.

Solution

Motivating people to recycle their old clothing by paying them per Kg of donated material.

Outcome

To date, Kiswa has recycled over 400 000 pieces of clothing and save them from ending up in the landfill.
