Batangas, a region in the Philippines, has released a policy document detailing efforts to protect the environment. Conservation of natural resources and biodiversity were prioritised despite Batangas’ status as an agro-industrial province. The core issues addressed include waste generation and management, fishery resources, biodiversity and habitat, underground water and community participation, in the context of achieving the goal of achieving a healthy balance between economic development and resource conservation. The document also emphasises the importance of multi-stakeholder participation that encourages mobilisation and capacity building of organisations and communities. Policy will be carried out on a municipal level, harmonised across the region.
