A medium size tv show or large feature film can go through more than 100,000 plastic water bottles during production. Considering this, during the filming of Endlings, a new children's series, the Sinking Ship Entertainment production company made the set disposable water-bottle free. Hiring an Environmental Steward was a key step to ensuring the production met its green objectives. Branded bottles labelled with everyone’s name were handed out on the first day. Each crew member was accountable for their own water bottle. Additional initiatives included, a reusable coffee mug initiative, a shuttle service between Toronto and the set and donating materials and wardrobe. Thanks to all these initiatives, Endlings earned Gold status for the EMA Green Seal for Production, the first independent Ontario production to earn the distinction. It is estimated that the equivalent of 6235 water bottles were saved over the course of the 57 shooting days.
