The Ellen MacArthur Foundation champions education and learning as a crucial success factor of the circular economy—and to that end, has committed to working with schools, colleges and universities to enable the circular transition. The organisation provides resources and lesson plans for teachers, academics and students. In the future, the Foundation aims to scale their approach and reach high numbers of students, academics and universities across the world, giving the circular economy a central role within educational institutions. Relationship and network building, activating shared projects, showcasing circular economy teaching and research and harnessing the power of the higher education sector to accelerate the circular transition are all key to the initiative. The Foundation has a number of success stories: working with the London Waste and Recycling Board to develop a direction of travel for London-based universities, for example, with the vision of all London students engaging with the circular economy, all London education institutions becoming circular, and all students being empowered to drive forward circular activities.
