Compared to the rest of the Netherlands, residents of Amsterdam separate only about half as much waste. The Zero Waste Lab is an initiative by De Gezonde Stad to rectify this by incentivising locals to separate their waste. Zero Waste Lab offers people bags to separate their waste and gives them coins upon handing in full bags at their facility. Those coins can then be used to pay for discounts in stores and cafes in Amsterdam Oost, while the waste can be recycled. Their goal is to triple the amount of household waste that is separated and recycled in Amsterdam, helping the Netherlands to reach their goal of 65% separation.
