Van de sant is a company that produces designed furniture from recycled plastic gathered from land and oceans.

Contributing to mitigation of deforestation, reduction of plastic waste in the world oceans and creates local jobs. in a fully circular furniture.

Every piece of furniture can be reprocessed into raw materials and re-manufactured into new design furniture.

Problem

Van de Sant Considered some of the last global environmental issues related to materials consumption:

2 billion trees are cut annually for furniture, legal and illegally.

8 million metric tons of plastic waste are dumped in the ocean every year.

2 billion people don’t have access to regular waste collection, while local authorities often spend over 50% of their budgets on waste management.

Solution

They taken the previously mentioned problems in consideration in their business model by:

- Stop deforestation: To end this they change their furniture frames into recycled ocean bound plastics.

- Reduce plastic waste: they use as much as possible plastic waste for the base structure and other parts of the furniture.

- Their goal is to open small manufacturing hubs on Small Island Development States and coastal areas, Education to recycle and jobs creation in furniture and recycling.

A business model to earn money on recycling, upscaling and export.

They worked on closing the loop by:

-Recover: In co-operation with different Non-Profit organization, recovers plastic waste from households, shorelines and oceans.

- Recycle: Recycle and shred into usable “virgin” material for 3D printing and sheet manufacturing.

-Reuse: the furniture is designed to be reusable after end of life cycle.

Their Interior circular design provides:

- Design and produce tailor made furniture from 100% sustainable recourses

-closing the loop on waste streams.

-Flexibility in interiors and design.

-Lower costs on warehousing, management, logistics.

-End “interior” waste by recycling and reusing.

-Plastic waste stream as a resource for furniture production.

-Customer becomes supplier.

They also worked with multiple partners that share them the same values to achieve their desired goals:
