This Presidential Decree approves the Strategic Plan for the Management of Urban Waste (PESGRU). This strategy establishes a new approach for the management of waste in Angola. It is a reference instrument at the national level for the management of urban waste, defining a series of proposals for action and supporting political responsibility in decision making and in orienting the principal actors on strategic options. The main goals are to extend and optimise unsorted waste collection, implement a treatment model, including waste valorisation and disposal of urban waste, launch selective collection, and structure specific flows. It aims to achieve a 10% recycling rate for glass, paper/cardboard, and metals, and a rate of 5% for plastic by 2022.
