Salubata recycles plastic waste into low-cost shoes. In order to create a closed loop, used shoes are converted into other valuable products. Salubata invented and patented a modular shoe design. With this design, customers can pay less to have different shoe uppers and one sole to complement it. 5% of every shoe purchased is committed to feeding starving children and to empowering women in underserved communities
This case study has been created as part of Footprints Africa's work to build a comprehensive open-source database of circular economy initiatives in Africa. We are doing this in collaboration with the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN), as part of our programme to support the circular economy transition in Africa.
